Our newly adopted tortoiseshell cat, Nono, making her grand debut by occupying the lead role and giving us her signature glare on my desk. She is such a pure joy to our otherwise mundane, monotonous lockdown days.

June, what a wonderful month, with the remaining hint of spring, and the promising energy of bright summer. Having lived in the equatorial countries for my entire life, I always love to do a bit imagining of the changes of weather in between seasons. But this particular June, Malaysia has just started its second full lockdown after a year. There goes my imagination indoors. Like everyone else, I am staying at home, trying to keep myself busy and fulfilling. I guess the best thing about being an artist, is that we are pretty accustomed to being indoors and just painting and creating the days and nights away, even pre-quarantine days. But the idea of a full lockdown is still uncanny, and that we are still fighting for a better world, every single day.

These dainty mini delphinium flowers were for a photoshoot, but isn't it a shame if I don't grab the opportunity to retain its beauty just a bit longer? I haven't done still life painting for quite a while now, and this is a great practice for myself. Hence today I am sharing a glimpse of how I paint still life flowers at home, and how painting is my way of escaping the craziness we are encountering right now in the world. I hope you are staying safe and sane too, and that this video offers a calm solace and encouragement for you to be productive at home.
